Felicity's First Bath

Tonight Mom gave me my first bath.  It wasn't so bad, although I didn't like the part when I was out of the blanket and I felt very cold.  As you can see, I am much happier when I am swaddled tightly in a blanket.  After my bath I got some good cuddle time with Mom and that made the bath worthwhile!

Elyse's First Bath

Tonight Dad gave me my first bath.  I actually liked it and didn't even cry (even though it was a bit chilly).  After my bath Dad bundled me up and we had some good cuddle time with the soft and fuzzy quilt that Grandma Beck made just for me!  Even though I have to stay at the hospital right now, it is so nice to have my very own blankie there for the times when Mom and Dad get to hold me close.

First Family Photo

Reunion!

What a day we had today! Together we reached so many major milestones today:

  1. Because we are digesting all of our milk through the tubes in our noses that goes directly to our tummies, we no longer need our IVs. This means that all of the problems the nurses had in getting the IVs in our veins (we get this from Mom--you should see the bruises she has from her IV!) are over! We no longer have to get poked and prodded. YEAH! (and living without all of the chords is pretty nice too!)
  2. We are no longer jaundiced and don't need the spotlight treatments any longer. This means we can get snuggly and cozy in a warm blanket and sleep soundly (which we do most of the day!).
  3. We got to wear our first clothes today! We are both very stylish in a flowered onesie and a pink onesie with flowers on the front. Of course Mom tells us we have quite the wardrobe waiting for us at home in our closet, but for now we have to wear the NICU clothes so ours don't get lost in the shuffle.
  4. Drumroll please....and biggest achievement of all today: we got to see each other and spend some time together for the first time since we left Mom's belly. It was so nice to see each other again. After some particularly brilliant photo ops (see our pics below), we snuggled together in Mom's arms and had a wonderful reunion nap. How wonderful it was! We can't wait until we are out of our isolettes and we get to sleep in the same crib together, because frankly, life is just lonely without our other half! :0)

Starbucks!!!

Mom spent the last 8 months very sick and then she had to be on bedrest for a long time so that we could grow strong and healthy.  Here is a picture of her first latte in 8 months!  We are so glad she got to enjoy a tasty coffee (and she was so excited, she even brought the NICU nurses Starbucks so they could share in the fun!).

I'm awake!

Life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Elyse: I get pretty comfortable in my warm isolette. And the next picture shows how I get my food until I'm able to take a bottle. But right now, I'm too little and would get too tired trying to eat all of my food with a bottle. You can also see I get to wear these stylish sunglasses to protect my eyes while I'm under the spotlights to help my jaundice go away.

Felicity: Mom and Dad get to take my temperature every three hours. Usually, I HATE it, but it's important that they check on my temperature. Once I get stronger, I'll be able to maintain my own temperature and be in an open crib. You can also see all of the wires that make sure I'm okay. Some monitor my heart rate, some check my blood pressure, and some monitor my oxygen intake.

Happy Birthday Felicity Claire!

After my sister decided it was time to say hello to the world, I decided that it was probably best for me to follow her lead (even though I was very comfortable in Mom's belly!). I was born at 3:54 in the afternoon and I weighed 3 lbs 7 oz at 17'' long. After getting time to say hello to Mom and Dad for just a minute, I had to go the NICU to make sure I was okay. It was so much fun to see Mom and Dad again later that night. Here we are spending some good family time together. Once Elyse and I get stronger and don't have to have so many cords, we will get to share a bed soon--I can't wait to sleep with my sister again--I sure miss her!

Happy Birthday Elyse Isabelle!

Hello! I made a surprise appearance a little early on January 23 when I decided it was time to get the show on the road. It was a little crazy and scary for Mom and Dad, but I just couldn't wait any longer to make my first debut. I was born at 3:40 pm weighing 3 lbs 0.6 oz at 16 '' long. These are my very first snapshots taken just hours after I was born...I definitely like it better when Mom and Dad hold me, it's so much better than the bed I have to sleep in at the NICU!

One last pregnancy picture

Here is the last picture I took of my pregnant belly. What a surprise it was to us that the twins would come only 5 days after this picture!
